I found out I have alopecia in grade twelve. Alopecia is simply: an area of that body that loses hair at random and without a known cause. I have never loss very much hair from it and due to injections, my hair returns slowly over a month or longer. I have wondered how I might prevent this loss of hair? I have tried an anti-inflammatory diet and did not notice any real change. An anti-inflammatory diet consists of avoiding processed foods and prefers fruits, whole grains, and lean meat.
I hope that I will be able to maintain a vegan diet as I hope that it limits my alopecia, increases athletic performance, and helps with my general health. I will track the process of finding recipes, cooking the meals, how I feel, as well as how my weight and body composition are responding to the new diet.
I will track progress through these blogs but also photos of my scalp and body.
I think I am at an advantage because my sister is vegan and has cookbooks and knowledge of meals to prepare. My girlfriend is also going to try the diet and I hope to get my father to try the diet also. Being surrounded by others that are following the same diet will make it much easier and more affordable.
I fear that I will not receive the proper nutrients through this diet to maintain my current weight of 200 pounds. I hope to put on weight through this process and build muscle. I do believe large amounts of research will be necessary to do this but I will start that right away.
My inspiration for this was my sister’s constant pestering, as well as the number of people that are making the transformation and loving the results. I hope to also watch the documentary “The Game Changers” which looks at plant-based athletes. This I hope will provide more insight as to how to obtain my goals.
Will my energy level increase? Will my alopecia lessen in effects? How might the financial cost effect me? How will I recover after training sessions?
Thanks Again!
